When you add a location in Kahuti we retrieve the corresponding latitude and longitude coordinates and then use an algorithm to calculate the distance between your coordinates and others (members, classifieds, local businesses, etc.) The distance we show should be interpreted 'as the crow flies', not driving distance!
Yes! You can manage your Email Notification settings in Account Settings. From here, choose to enable daily summaries and we will try to send you a daily email with information about your community and the top posts from the previous 24 hours. Unfortunately email delivery can be affected by forces outside of our control so we can't guarantee the messages will reach your mailbox.
We've been assembling a collection of resources including posters and social media images that you can use to spread the word about Kahuti. You can find these resources from the Share Kahuti link at the bottom of your page.
You can talk about anything on Kahuti as long as it falls within our community standards which can be summarized by these rules: topics that are illegal, abusive, defamatory or intentionally disruptive may be removed but anything else is perfectly acceptable.
We have several free and paid options for local small businesses to increase their exposure to local customers. Because supporting local small businesses is important to us we will always offer free advertising options and our paid options are intended to be affordable, typically costing less than 50/month.

Because Kahuti operates globally you may need to include your country code to get the correct results, meaning that you may need to enter London, UK instead of just London if your map is not loading or is displaying the wrong location.

Currently adding friends is a purely semantic exercise and a way of letting another member know that you particularly appreciate their thoughts and comments! In the future we will likely add additional capabilities within the friendship system.
We have a long way to go before we reach strong saturation even in the UK and US. Unfortunately this means that many areas have very few members. If you think Kahuti looks promising other than having a low population, consider inviting some of your friends and neighbors to join you and reach out to our team to ask about what we can do to help your community grow.
Our long term goal is to help connect and strengthen communities and local small businesses across the world but we can't do it alone! While our team is responsible for making sure things are running smoothly and keeping the lights on, any help spreading the word about Kahuti is greatly appreciated. We are better together.
Stories on the news feed are sorted chronologically but also factor in comments so a story that was posted a week ago but just had a new comment added will be pushed to the top of the stack.
Currently there is a hard limit of 30 days since the original post was created and we are in the process of revising this to be 30 days from the date of last activity.
After navigating to Account Settings, select My Posts to view any stories (a.k.a. posts) that you've added to the news feed within the last 90 days.
There is a blue 'invite friends' icon below the map. Clicking this icon will open a window that will allow you to enter a friend's email address and we will send an invitation in your name.
By navigating to Account Settings > News Feed Categories you can choose which categories are visible on your news feed. Any categories that you exclude will also be excluded from your daily summary email.
After blocking another member you will no longer see any posts or comments they have written. You will also not be able to send private messages to that person and vice versa. If you change your mind, you can unblock someone from Account Settings > Blocked Users.
Negative or hurtful interactions tend to facilitate more negative interactions and if they're not controlled in a shared forum they can create a toxic environment that ruins the experience for everyone and dissuades new members from participating.
Yes. After navigating to Account Settings > News Feed Appearance you can choose from three styles for your news feed. The options are: Title + Full Content, Title + Short Summary and Title Only. The second and third options can make it easier to quickly browse and pick out posts that you find interesting.
